Blushing Bride Series: Say Yes to the Dress

The Blushing Bride Series

Most women picture what they want their wedding dress to look like from an early age. So it’s no surprise how super stoked I was to start looking for dresses. I’ve talked to so many brides to be who said it took them weeks or even months to make the decision. So while I didn’t really know what to expect, I thought it would at least take me a while to pick the winner. WRONG! I actually picked my dress on the second day I went shopping! I must admit though, I did have a bit of a time constraint seeing that my Mom was here from Jamaica and she refused to leave until I found my dress! Lol. But other than that, I’ve never been indecisive when it comes on to clothing. Once I see what I like, I’m out the door with it in no time unless of course my bank account says otherwise, Lol.

So I decided to take you along with me and give you a sense of my experience. But don’t get too excited, you won’t be seeing my actual dress until the wedding day. But until then, here’s a few I tried on.

1) Have an open mind – It’s funny how you think you know exactly how you want your dress to look and then what you get turns out to be quite the opposite! This also means that you have to trust your consultant, they have an eye for what works best for you. Even if you have a specific style in mind, be open to trying on a variety of fits and even colors. The dress you walk out the store with may end up being the one you pushed to the side initially.

2) The less, the merrier – I know you’ll probably be buzzing with excitement during this time. So even though you may be tempted to bring an entourage of 12 people  with you, believe me when I say the less, the better. You need to be able to have a clear mind and having 10 different opinions about your dress is a sure way to cloud your judgement. The day I said YES to the dress, I only brought my Mom and Dad. To be honest, approval from them was what mattered most to me. It was definitely an emotional moment when we all saw MY dress! It’s true what they say–when you try on your dress, you’ll just know it’s yours. I had butterflies, tears, goosebumps & all that jazz!

3) Determine what style dress works best for your figure – Do your research before starting to look in person. There are tons of different styles of dresses, but remember that what looks good on Susie may not necessarily work for Sally and vice versa. You can find a list of dresses that work best for each body type on the

Well, even though I’ve already gotten my dress, we’re now on the hunt for the perfect bridesmaid dresses! Be sure to subscribe for more wedding updates coming your way soon.

Until Next Time…
