Being able to learn from creative minds who have paved the way in blogging and social media is extremely helpful to new bloggers. I had the pleasure of catching up with Natasha Lee and asked her a few questions about how she started blogging, what she loves the most about her Caribbean culture amongst other random fun facts. I’ve always admired her sense of style and passion for what she does as well as the fact that we both have Caribbean blood running through our veins. Keep on reading to get to know her more!
01. Describe yourself in 4 words.
“Creative. Wanderer. Explorer. Goofy.”
02. What inspired you to start blogging?
“StylishLee has been on my mind for quite a few years, however I spent those years talking myself out (covers face). Eventually I got the push that I needed when I joined Instagram. My followers loved my OOTD posts and day by day my following grew. This allowed me to see that there was a demand for a second outlet where I could share the full details of my outfits with my followers. So I will forever thank them for motivating me to take that plunge into the blogging world on my birthday in September of 2014.”
03. Where do you see your blog in 5 years?
“I hope to become a prominent fashion & beauty influencer both locally and internationally.”
04. Other than blogging, how do you enjoy spending your free time?
“Exploring the hidden places in Jamaica, going to the movies (I go every single Monday!), & taking photos of any and everything.”
05. Who are some of your favorite bloggers ?
“Micah Gianneli, Chriselle Lim, Aimee Song, Nyane Lebajoa and Jessica Stein.”
06. Walk us through a typical day in your life. What does the average day look like for you, both professionally and personally?
“Wow! Pretty loaded question for me since every day is always totally different. How ‘bout I give a quick break down of the possibilities. My day can go anywhere from working with clients, meeting potential clients, renting or selling homes (yes! I am also in Real Estate- FUN FACT), attending photoshoots, to a day where I spend working strictly on StylishLee.”
07. Name three items/accessories you can’t leave home without
“Cellphone, Chapstick, & SUNGLASSES!!! I completely believe that the eyes are the window to your soul…or the window that prevents everyone from knowing that you are lacking sleep and not wearing an ounce of makeup. You see, when you throw on a pair of sunnies you trick people into thinking that you are totally put together when in fact you’re running on 2 hours sleep and you’re hiding those dreadful bags under your eyes.”
08. What are some of your favorite stores to shop at?
“H&M, Zara, Forever21 and Asos”
09. Do you pour the milk in before your cereal or after? I heard you love cereal! Lol. What’s your fav one?
“GIMME THE CEREAL!!! I LOVE Cereal and I’ll literally eat it for breakfast, lunch & dinner! Oh & I pour the milk after (almond milk btw). Currently I’ve been eating Special K the Vanilla-Almond EVERY SINGLE DAY!”
10. What do you love about your Jamaican culture the most?
“That’s seriously such a hard question for me to answer because I love my country so much. I’m the type of person who can’t stay away from Ja for too long. I absolutely love my little Island filled with people with warm hearts and huge personalities-there is no place I’d rather live!!! We can get a little loud and we definitely know how to ‘hold a one vibe’ and have a good time…& don’t get me started on the foooooooood!!!! Oh wait and the vibrant fashion!!! Lawd gee, yuh si what I mean, I’m all over the place because I just can’t choose..”
11. Totally Random: Would you free Vybz Kartel despite him being locked up for murder? Lol
“Free Worl Boss!!!!!!! (jokes, jokes). He is truly missed but it is what it is…BUT some-way, some-how the man is locked up and yet a new track releases every other week. Still tryna figure out how that’s possible, but hey it works for me (Lol)”
12. Finally, what are some major tips or advice you’d give to beginner bloggers
“Invest in a good camera! Stay true to yourself! Be authentic! People like relatable people, so find your own voice to help set you apart from the rest and let your ‘true’ personality shine through. Don’t try to be someone you aren’t because eventually people will see past it. Lastly work out a schedule to fit into your life for blogging. Blogging takes a lot of commitment and hard work and its pretty easy to lose your focus, motivation and inspiration. So if you are in it for the wrong reasons blogging may not be for you.”
