I woke up today reminiscing about my weekend attending my first blog conference ever. FlBlogCon was amazeballs! (Yes, I said it. Lol) I had a great experience and as such, I have to share it with you. Like Duhhhh. I drove about 4 hours to the venue with my fiancé who supported me every step of the way and even has notes to show for it. What a trooper, right?! Lol.
The theme for this year’s conference was “The Next Step” and I definitely took away a ton of advice on how to take my blog to the next level. If you’re thinking about starting a blog, fresh on the bog scene or even a seasoned blogger, here are 4 major tips that resonated with me:
1) Brand Dating – Christie from Raising Whasians did an amazing session on the topic of how to build relationships with brands. She likened the relationship to real life dating and how important it is to have a good first impression as well as establishing trust. Christie also said that the 3 of the most important steps to make when wanting to build relationships with brands include: drafting an email pitch, setting standards for yourself as to what you will and will not do for brands as well as joining a blog network.
2) Stand up comedian Adam Avitable also did a great job exploring the art of writing better. He narrowed it down to 3 main tips including: eliminating as many unnecessary words and cliches as you can when writing, evoking emotional responses from readers and thoroughly editing your work.
3) Justice Mitchell delivered a hilarious yet informative presentation on how important it is to produce content on all your social media platforms. He gave over 50 tips including: instagram promotions, developing an email list, associating with like minded bloggers, hosting in person meet ups, inviting guest bloggers to write for your blog and the last goes on and on and on… I could be here all day with this one. Lol.
4) One of my favorite speakers may be a little biased seeing that she’s a fashion blogger, but I loved hearing Jeanette’s take on the fashion blogging industry and her journey of getting to where she is today. I had the pleasure of chatting with her a bit after her presentation and shared with her my vision of working with fashion and beauty brands. She then told me the best way to start would be to reach out to local boutiques that have a smilier following on social media as I do. This way when it’s time to reach out to bigger brands, I’ll have something to show for it– or if I’m as lucky as her, brands will eventually start reaching out to me!
Overall I had a fulfilling experience and I’m so happy I got the chance to go. Bess Auer continues to host a rewarding conference and I will definitely be there again next year!
Any tips stuck out at you? Let’s talk about it. 🙂
Until Next Time…
