How to Spruce Up Your Resume in Minutes

Inspiration, Lifestyle

So I’m definitely in that awkward phase that most recent grads go through of tirelessly searching for the right job while slowly becoming a professional bum. Lol. A few weeks ago as I was sending out tons of resumes to different companies, I realized a big problem. My resume was pretty dull. I consider myself to be a creative person and as such, I thought my resume should reflect that. I quickly did some research, revamped my resume and have gotten amazing feedback ever since!

Here are some easy and quick tips on how you can WOW your next prospective employer:

1) Jazz up the format – I had no idea there were so many fun and creative ways to format a resume! This site has hundreds of stylish and professional templates that will undoubtedly set you apart from other applicants. Here’s the template I used:

Cute right?? 🙂

2) No experience? No Problem! – Take it from me, I’ve been struggling with this big time. I mean, I’ve been in school all my life, how can I possibly have 5+ years of work experience?? If you find yourself in a similar situation, focus on your skills and volunteer experience. Depending on the job you’re applying for, that may just be enough!

3) Lastly, be specific – I know you’ve probably been taught to butter up the employer by using words such as passionate, driven and self motivated. But believe it or not, these words mean nothing to hiring managers if there’s no real specifics to back it up. Quantify your resume— state what you’ve actually done to improve the companies you’ve worked for. If you’ve increased sales, trained workers, etc.. be sure to make mention of it.
